Interpretation of electron-proton scattering at low Q

چکیده
Low-Q2 photons do not resolve partons in the proton, which gives problems when applying the deep inelastic scattering formalism, such as an unphysical, negative gluon density extracted from data. Considering instead hadronic fluctuations of the photon, we show that the generalised vector meson dominance model (GVDM) gives a good description of the measured cross section at low Q2, i.e. reproduces F2(x,Q 2), using only few parameters with essentially known values. Combining GVDM and parton density functions makes it possible to obtain a good description of F2 data over the whole range of x and Q2.

Hadronic Energy Flow in Deep Inelastic Electron Proton Scattering and Proton Structure
The electron proton collider HERA has opened up a new kinematic region in which the structure of the proton can be studied In particular it allows mea surements to be made at low Bjorken x where the gluon content of the proton is expected to be large and where novel QCD e ects may be observed This thesis presents a rst attempt at understanding the composition of the proton by studying the colou...
متن کاملMeasurement of the Proton Form Factor Ratio GE/GM from Double Spin Asymmetries
Detailed study of the nucleons is very important to understand the nucleus. Electron-Proton scattering is the best tool to probe the nucleus and hence deep into it. In the One-Photon exchange (Born) approximation, the structure of the nucleon characterized by electric and magnetic form factors, GE(Q ) and GM(Q ), which depend only on momentum transfer squared, Q. At Q=0, the proton form factors...

The HERA data on inelastic lepton proton scattering for values of the Bjorken scaling variable x< ∼0.05 are confronted with predictions based on Generalized Vector Dominance. Good agreement between theory and experiment is found over the full kinematic range of the squared four-momentum-transfer, Q, from Q = 0 (photoproduction) to Q ∼ 350 GeV. ∗ Supported by the Bundesministerium für Bildung un...
متن کاملA Different View of Deep Inelastic Electron-proton Scattering
Deep inelastic electron-proton scattering is analyzed in the target rest frame using a theoretical approach suitable to describe many-body systems of bound constituents subject to interactions. At large three-momentum transfer |q|, this approach predicts the onset of scaling in the variable ỹ = ν-|q|, where ν denotes the energy transfer. The present analysis shows that the data, plotted at cons...
متن کاملA Parton Model for Diffractive Processes in Deep Inelastic Scattering
We demonstrate that the global properties of the “rapidity gap” events, observed at HERA, can be understood based on electron-gluon scattering as the underlying partonic process. Using the measured inclusive structure function F2 to determine the parameters of the parton model, the diffractive structure function F 2 is predicted. The ratio of diffractive and inclusive cross sections, RD = σD/σi...
